2011 has been a good year of exposure and recognition for local photographer Gordon Kreplin, owner of Ascencion Photography.

First, his worked landed on the June cover of Southern Exposure magazine, the Southeastern Professional Photographers Association official magazine. The June issue features Kreplin’s “Old Friends” photograph.

To add to the honor, that issue of Southern Exposure won its own award for its content.

Kreplin’s photo also garnered a Distinguished Award at the SEPPA convention this past April in Athens, Ga.

Kreplin has now made his debut as a professional judge and in January, he will be awarded the master photographer degree as well as receiving the 2011 Photographer of Year award along with his mentor, master photographer and international judge Pat Hansen in New Orleans.

The winning cover photo is pictured here, and the portrait of Kreplin featured was taken by Hansen at Gordon’s Kill Devil Hill’s studio with using Kreplin’s camera and equipment.

Ascension is located at 1314 S. Croatan Highway in the same building that houses Hairoics at milepost 9.5.
