Coast Guard suspends search for kite boarder

The search for a missing 44-year-old kite surfer has been suspended, the Coast Guard said Tuesday.

Charles Jackson was last seen standing about 30 yards offshore on the shoals off Cape Point in 6- to 10-foot seas.

The Coast Guard, National Park Service and Hatteras Island Rescue had expanded their search Monday as far south as Ocracoke Island because of the rough surf and strong currents.

National Park Service ranger David Carter told the Island Free Press that Jackson, an assistant manager at Kitty Hawk Kites in Rodanthe, was considered an experienced kiteboarder.
