OBX Seafood Fest finalizes prep and lineup

Final preparation for the first Outer Banks Seafood Festival on Saturday, Oct. 20, moved into high gear this past week, with the confirmation of all participating restaurants, presenters, craftspeople and non-profits, and entertainment.

The event site is being prepped for traffic, with a comprehensive transportation plan in place, and T-shirts and memorabilia are arriving daily.

The festival is being held in Nags Head on the waterfront of the Outer Banks Visitors Bureau Event Site, formerly known as Windmill Point, and runs from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m., rain or shine.

Admission to the Outer Banks Seafood Festival is free, and includes entry to all entertainment, kids zone, and demonstrations.

No coolers, outside alcohol, or pets are allowed at the festival.

Limited onsite parking will be available for $10 per vehicle, while there will be free off-site parking and shuttle service.

Offsite parking locations and shuttle stops are at the Dare County Administration Complex in front of the Dare Community Center, Whalebone Park next to Dune Burger, Nags Head Town Hall, Nags Head Elementary School, Central Square/Gateway Bank, Pirates Quay Shopping Center, and Outer Banks Mall in the north section.

Offsite parking shuttles will begin running at 10:15 a.m., with departures from each lot no longer than each half-hour.

Tickets for food and beverage are $1 each can be purchased online or onsite for visitors to enjoy local seafood dishes prepared by Outer Banks restaurants.

In the food tent, local restaurants will be cooking up such dishes as shrimp jim’balaya, crab cakes, shrimp and scallop bisque, blackened scallops, steamed blue crabs, smoked tuna salad, mac & cheese (for the non-seafood lover), soft crab sandwiches, fried oysters, fish sandwiches and plenty more.

All items will be priced and served either tapas style or as complete plates.

In addition, two local craft brewers will be on hand with locally brewed beer, while there will be other beer and wine choices as well as soft drinks.

In addition, there will be about 20 craftspeople and several local, non-profit organizations represented.
