Colington man dies in motorcycle accident

By on March 18, 2013

Kevin Kopec, 41, of Colington was killed Saturday in a motorcycle accident.

A chain reaction started when a pickup heading east on Colington Road stopped to take a left turn near Billy’s Seafood, Trooper W.A. Weldon of the N.C. State Highway patrol said.

Kopec’s motorcycle hit the left rear of a mini van that had stopped behind the truck, sending the motorcycle into the westbound lane.

Kopec was thrown from the bike to the side of the road, then was hit by a westbound pickup that had swerved to try to avoid a collision.

The accident happened at 1:46 p.m.

Kopec, the produce manager at Harris Teeter, leaves behind his wife, Lori, and daughter, Kyrstin.
