Public Defender R. Andrew Womble has been appointed to the District Attorney’s post long held by the late Frank Parrish.
Ryan Tronovitch, deputy communications director for Gov. Pat McCrory, confirmed Monday that the appointment had been made.
Womble will lead the District 1 prosecutor’s office, which covers Chowan, Camden, Currituck, Dare, Gates, Pasquotank and Perquimans counties.
Chief Assistant District Attorney Nancy Lamb was appointed by the governor as interim prosecutor shortly after Parrish’s death in September.
Parrish was up for re-election in 2014. Womble will serve out the term until then.
