A commercial fishing trawler from Wanchese ran aground Monday morning just east of the Bonner Bridge in Oregon Inlet.

Pictures from eyewitnesses show the F/V Fine Tuna was hard aground and side too the Bodie Island shoal, which juts out into Oregon Inlet, sometime before 10 a.m.

Low tide at the inlet was at 10:42 a.m. Monday, with high tide at 4:40 p.m.

The shoal has been continuously filling in Oregon Inlet just east of the bridge’s navigation span for the last several years, forcing boats to make hard turns to stay in the channel.

A post on Twitter a few hours later showed the vessel floating in the channel, but other details about the grounding were not immediately available.
