A two-vehicle crash on U.S. 158 in Nags Head Wednesday night sent three people to the hospital and forced traffic to be rerouted to the Beach Road for about an hour.
Nags Head Police Chief Kevin Brinkley said the wreck was reported around 9:15 p.m. near the intersection of South Croatan Highway and East Finch Street.
A 2014 Chevrolet pulled out of a business parking lot into the center turn lane headed southbound, then drifted into the inside northbound lane and was struck head-on by a 2003 Ford, according to Brinkley.
The driver and two passengers in the Chevrolet suffered non-life threatening injuries and were taken to The Outer Banks Hospital for treatment. Brinkley added that one of the victims may have suffered a neck fracture.
Both drivers are Dare County residents, and a citation for driving left of center was issued to the driver of the Chevrolet.
Brinkley said traffic was stopped in both directions on U.S. 158 and then re-routed to Virginia Dare Trail because of the amount of debris spread across the scene.
