The body of Brant L. Wise, owner and operator of the Veronica, was found Monday near his boat, according to Manteo Police Chief Vance Haskett.

In a short statement, Haskett said that the body was recovered in the Pirates Cove Marina channel at 3:15 p.m.

Wise had last been seen Friday night, and rescue workers searched the Roanoke Sound by air and boat from Saturday through Sunday.

Haskett said a dive team arrived Sunday afternoon and was searching the Pirates Cove boat basin near the Veronica, formerly known as the Timber Toy until the 61-foot custom Buddy Davis sportsfisher was rechristened earlier this year.

Wise posted on Facebook Friday that he had just brought the Veronica back to the docks at Pirates Cove after a haul-out for maintenance work.
