Body of New Jersey man found after tubing accident

The body of a 45-year-old New Jersey man has been recovered after he had been missing since Saturday afternoon following a tubing accident on the Currituck Sound.

Zandro Samonte of Bergenfield, N.J. disappeared after he fell from an inner tube being pulled by a pontoon boat around 1 p.m. off Jaycrest Road in Duck. His body was found Sunday near the Southern Shores/Duck town line.

The Coast Guard said he was not wearing a life jacket at the time of the incident.

Local, state and federal agencies took part in the search from the air and on the water until dusk on Saturday.
