Offseason speed limits of 45 mph along sections of N.C. 12 through the Hatteras Island villages, and parts of Southern Shores, Duck and Corolla have started going into effect.

The change from 35 mph usually happens on Sept. 15 but was delayed because of Hurricane Florence and the N.C. Department of Transportation’s response to issues elsewhere around the state.

Crews were out Wednesday morning changing out signs, and highway department spokesperson Tim Hass said they will finish by the end of the week.
