Much of the ocean outfall at Martin Street in Kill Devil Hills has been uncovered due to recent ocean activity.

Drivers are advised to use extra caution when driving on this area of the beach, keeping all vehicles west of the exposed portion of the outfall and warning signs that are posted.

Vehicles must have a driving permit from either Kill Devil Hills or Nags Head, which are valid on both town’s beaches.

National Park Service beach driving permits are not valid for driving on town beaches.

Beach driving permits from Kill Devil Hills are available at Town Hall, 102 Town Hall Drive, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Permits can also be purchased at Nags Head Town Hall and TW’s Bait & Tackle in Nags Head.

The cost is $25 for the season running through April 30, or $10 for a 14-day permit.

KDH should rope and close this area off to all through traffic until there is better sand coverage. Somebody’s gonna damage the outfall or damage the dune there trying to keep off the outfall.
