Southern Shores police have charged an 18-year-old Kill Devil Hills man on three counts, including two felonies, after a break-in at a sub shop in Southern Shores over the weekend.

Officers responded to the Jersey Mike’s at The Marketplace in the 5500 block of North Croatan Highway, after an alarm was activated Sunday at 1:53 a.m., according to Police Chief David Kole.

“Upon arrival, officers discovered the front door had been smashed in,” Kole said. “While searching the area, officers spotted a vehicle leaving and asked officers from Kitty Hawk Police Department for assistance in stopping the vehicle.”

Kole said two people were inside the vehicle after they were pulled over.

Vashon James II was charged with felony breaking and entering, felony larceny and misdemeanor damage to property.

Charges are pending against the second person, who was not identified in the press release.

“The Southern Shores Police Department would also like to thank Dare County Sheriff’s Office, Kill Devil Hills Police Department and Duck Police Department for their assistance in securing the scene and the investigation,” Kole said.
