A Currituck County man wanted in connection with an apparent homicide was taken into custody after an armed standoff with police Wednesday morning in Chesapeake.

Investigators were called to a home in Coinjock around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday where the body of Adam Markert, 34, was found, according to Currituck County Sheriff Matthew Beickert.

Beickert said the suspect in the case, 25-year-old Lucas Daniel Molesky, was a roommate of the victim.

Molesky was tracked to Virginia, where he was stopped by Chesapeake police officers.

Officers say when they first approached Molesky, he pulled out a gun and threatened suicide before fleeing, WVEC-TV reported.

Police surrounded Molesky in a wooded area between a public safety building and the Midway Trailer Park. Shortly after 8:30 a.m., he was taken into custody unharmed, the television station said.

Anyone who had contact with Molesky on Tuesday is asked to contact the Currituck Sheriff’s Office at 252-435-8204. Anonymous tips can been submitted through or call the Currituck Crime Line at 252-232-6070.

“As always we will rely on our community for assistance,” Beickert said. “Please keep the information coming.”

Beickert said the investigation is ongoing, and further details about the case were not yet available for release.
