Ocracoke Express passenger ferry set to launch in May

By on December 21, 2018

After some delays, the new Ocracoke Express passenger ferry is now set to launch May 14, according to the N.C. Department of Transportation.

The new vessel, still under construction and scheduled for delivery in February, will carry 98 passengers on a 70-minute ride between Hatteras and Ocracoke’s Silver Lake.

Once at the village, trams will be waiting to take visitors exploring the island, with no worries about traffic or parking. The ferry will run round trips three times per day.

Fares will range from $5 to $15 depending on time of day. Kids under 3 will ride free.

Great idea. Ocracoke can’t handle the continued increase of traffic. Where will people park in Hatteras?

We know it is not on time. How much will the final cost be? Will it be delivered on budget?
