The Outer Banks Association of REALTORS® (OBAR) held its 30th Annual Charity Golf Tournament at the Kilmarlic Golf Club on Friday, May 31st, benefitting the Association’s Scholarship and Disaster Relief Funds. This year marked the 11th anniversary partnering with the Kilmarlic Golf Club and Director of Golf Bryan Sullivan, and the first time in over a decade that it rained. Says Sullivan, “This was the first time we have ever had to worry about the weather and began getting our backup plans in place when it was clear that the rain was inevitable. But in the end, the golfers hunkered down, waited it out, and then returned to normal play”. Sullivan continued, “This is why I love hosting this tournament because it gives kids in this community a chance to reach their dreams and goals and the players know they are an integral part of that success.”

Golf Tournament Committee Chair, Anne Morrisette of Hodges Appraisals said, “The tournament is always a fun, well-organized event with the proceeds going to two worthwhile charities. Even with the rain, Bryan, OBAR staff and the Golf Committee did a great job. I can only express gratitude to each one of them for their dedication and support for such a great cause. This year was even more special because it was our 30th annual tourney and we managed to register 30 teams—the most we have ever done.”

Teams participating included REALTOR® offices, mortgage companies, insurance companies, and more. This year’s winning team,, led by Everette Jennings, and his teammates, Matt Meekins, Drew Meekins, and Zach Winstead won with a score of 52. Said Jennings, “You surround yourself with good people, you get good results, and this is for a great cause, so we were thankful to be a part of it.”

For the second year in a row, 2017 International Long Drive Challenge (ILDC) Team Champion Jacob (Jesus of Golf) Golliday helped raise almost $1,000 for the event while wowing participants with his long drive skills. Says Golliday, “I love the Outer Banks. I went to First Flight High School, so it is such a rewarding opportunity to be able to give back to the kids.  And I really appreciate OBAR for giving me the opportunity to join the tournament and be a part of the whole process.” Golliday’s longest measured drive was a tourney winning 456 yards last year.

OBAR extends a special thank you to Weatherly Insurance for sponsoring the clubhouse reception dinner, Howard Hanna Real Estate Services for sponsoring the mobile cart, and OBX Chevy for sponsoring and donating a car for the “Hole in One” opportunity on the 17th hole. While no one won the car this year, there were several very close calls. In addition, the Association would like to thank the many local businesses who supported the event by raffle prize donations, sponsorships, teams and more.

2019 Chevy Blazer sponsored by OBX Chevrolet Buick went unclaimed again this year.

Proceeds of the tournament are split equally between OBAR’s Scholarship and Disaster Relief funds. In partnership with the Outer Banks Community Foundation, both funds are available to residents of Dare County and are not limited to OBAR REALTOR® members. For more information please visit or
