A home at 140 Meadow Lake Circle in Jarvisburg was severely damaged by an Aug. 7 fire that began in the building’s attic. The occupant was not at home at the time of the fire. Given the storms in the area at the time, lightning is considered a possible cause of the blaze, but that has yet to be determined.

“The cause is under investigation,” said Currituck Fire-EMS Chief Ralph Melton, who said first responders got the call at 7:05 p.m. and battled the fire for two hours. Currituck Fire-EMS was assisted at the scene by firefighters from nearby communities, including the Lower Currituck Volunteer Fire Department as well as firefighters from Southern Shores and Kitty Hawk, and others. According to Chief Melton, the home suffered “extensive damage.”

My friend who lives only a few doors down the street from this home had his GFI sockets blown out by that same strike of lightning. That storm looked like a strobe light show going by our house in Grandy. Our hearts are broken for the family that lives there.

Seems like people now a days would rather pick up a camera rather than a water hose.
