Anniversary celebrations for historic school

The Historic Jarvisburg Colored School in Jarvisburg, N.C. will be celebrating the 10th Anniversary of its placement on the National Register of Historic places and the 150th Anniversary of the land deed to build the school, purchased by William M. Hunt, an African American farmer, in 1867.

Please join alumni and friends of the school in celebration on Saturday, Aug,. 24th from 12:00 – 4:00 p.m., at 7302 Caratoke Highway in Jarvisburg for music, raffles, speakers, Leon Saunders famous fish and chicken, games, bounce house and a silent auction. And yes, there will be a dessert tent for all of you with a sweet tooth!

In addition to the festivities, there will be the unveiling of a commissioned oil painting of the school from Outer Banks artist, James Melvin.  A limited edition run of 100 signed and numbered prints with a certificate of authentication will available for the purchase price of $50 that day and following at the Moyock Welcome Center.
