Gene Williams, Assistant Professor/Program Coordinator of HVAC Technology at COA, provides a demonstration for students at last year’s Advanced Manufacturing Day.

College of The Albemarle (COA) will host its 6th Annual Advanced Manufacturing Day on Friday, October 4th, at the Regional Aviation and Technical Training Center (RATTC) in Currituck.  The event, sponsored by Sumitomo Drive Technologies, will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and is open to the public to attend.

This event gives prospective students the opportunity to learn about careers in machining, welding, aviation, engineering, HVAC, information technology systems, and drafting and design.

Class instructors are available to answer questions regarding their programs and COA staff will be on hand to help individuals with questions about enrollment and financial aid.  A number of local employers who hire COA graduates in the manufacturing field will be onsite at the event to discuss employment opportunities.  Employers planning to attend include A.R. Chesson Construction, B&M Contractors, Hockmeyer Equipment Corporation, Newport News Shipbuilding, Oceaneering, Sumitomo Drive Technologies, U.S. Coast Guard – Industrial Operations Division and Workforce Resources.  Local employment agency, NCWorks, will also be available at the event.

“This event draws a considerable crowd from high school students figuring out their future education to adults looking to make a potential change in their career,” said Michelle Waters, Dean of Business, Industry and Applied Technologies and Campus Administrator of RATTC.  “These programs are in high demand within our region and I encourage anyone who may be on the fence about their career path to attend Advanced Manufacturing Day and learn more about these careers from local leaders in the industry.”
