Dare County Arts Council and The Outer Banks Hospital have partnered on project called Expressions of Hope & Healing of the Outer Banks Cancer Community bringing free art workshops and artistic resources to community members who have been affected by cancer.
Artist Fay Davis Edwards and cancer survivor Susan Lawrence are working together to ensure that anyone who has been touched by cancer in any capacity (cancer patients, their family members/friends, caretakers, cancer survivors and our local oncology healthcare professionals) can share their journey and experiences through the arts.
The free workshops will be every Tuesday at the Dare County Arts Council Gallery in Manteo through December 17, 2019 from 2-5pm. Pre-registration is not required. Silk scarf painting, ceramics, batiks, writing exercises, journaling, weaving, and painting are some of the media offered in these workshops.
Another activity available in these workshops is the Butterfly Project. Class participants are invited to “be a part of the flock” and share how cancer has touched their life while painting three-dimensional butterflies with watercolor and markers.
A number of Outer Banks artists will be helping lead the workshops.
Individuals interested in private sessions and artists interested in leading an Expressions workshop can contact Fay directly at [email protected]
Artwork that is created in these classes will be featured in an Expressions Exhibit at Dare County Arts Council’s Gallery, which will debut later this fall.
