2019 People’s Choice Exhibit Opening Reception featuring work by Fay Davis Edwards

Manteo artist Fay Davis Edwards has been selected for Dare County Arts Council’s 2019 People’s Choice Exhibit from a field of over two dozen talented artists across a range of media.

Fay has been pursuing her Masters in Fine Art at Maine College of Art (MECA) in the heart of the Portland’s Art District for the last two years. She is currently working on her thesis and preparing to graduate in May.

“My studies at MECA have been extremely challenging and rewarding, and I can see how my approach to art making has grown considerably during my time in Portland,” said Fay Davis Edwards. “There is so much to share and I am excited to come home with a fresh perspective and new connections.”

The People’s Choice Exhibit will be titled “Watermarks” and will have a diverse selection of Fay’s mixed media, photography and paintings. Fay says she also hopes to include a projection/film from her thesis exhibition at the Institute for Contemporary Art in Portland in the installation at DCAC.

The show will be on display in Dare County Arts Council’s Gallery in downtown Manteo November 1-February 1, 2020

 Gloria Coker Exhibit Artist Reception

Gloria’s fall exhibition titled “Let Go and Enjoy” features her vivid acrylic paintings involving people enjoying their passions, including music, dance and festivals.

“The more I let loose and throw paint around, the better I feel. Perhaps I am subconsciously rebelling against our more digitized, pixelated world, but I actually enjoy the feel of the wet paint and my ability to create a “happy accident” as they say in the art of watercolor where I began. I am hoping the paintings in my show reflect a certain Joi de Vivre- Joy of Life, ” says Gloria.

Featuring works by Susannah Sakal and Barbara Hanft.
