Captain Trey Piland presented with VFW Life Saving Award

Captain Trey Piland, Director of Dare County Sheriff’s Office 911 Communications, is the recipient of the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars Life Saving Award due to his courageous acts during a water rescue in June 2018.

Kelli Harmon, Commander of the Outer Banks VFW Post 10950, presented Piland with the award at the Board of Commissioners meeting on Monday, November 18, 2019. Harmon was joined by other members of VFW Post 10950 and Dare County Sheriff Doug Doughtie.

The Life Saving Award is a part of a VFW program that recognizes heroes within the community. Piland was recognized for his fast and selfless thinking during the incident that resulted in a young life saved.
