There is plenty of rooting interest tonight as three area teams try to advance in the second round of the North Carolina High School State Football Championships.

In Dare County, the Manteo Redskins, enjoying a terrific season, are in the hunt. A bit north, in Currituck County, the rapidly improving Currituck Knights are battling in the post-season. And in Elizabeth City, the Northeastern Eagles are looking for a deep tournament run.

After defeating Riverside 55-26 in a first-round 1A playoff game last Friday, Nov. 15, the No. 6 seeded Manteo Redskins hit the road to play No. 3 seed Granville Central Panthers (7-4) tonight, Friday, Nov. 22. Coach Sport Sawyer’s squad has put together a strong season, compiling a 10-2 record with a 4-1 conference mark.
