Manteo rolls up impressive win in football playoffs

Northeastern victorious, Currituck drops a close contest

The Manteo Redskins proved themselves to be playoff road warriors as they rolled over Granville Central in the second-round 1AA matchup on Friday, Nov. 22, winning 45-12.

The No. 6 seeded Redskins will play another away game as they face off against No. 2 seeded and unbeaten Holmes (Edenton) next Friday, Nov. 29, in a third-round matchup.

With the win on Friday, Manteo moved its record up to 11-2.  So far this year, Coach Sport Sawyer’s squad has outscored its opponents by nearly 200 points, 468-279.

Meanwhile, the Currituck Knights’ strong season came to an end on Friday night as they dropped a tight and tough 20-13 contest to South Granville on the road in a round-two 2AA   playoff game. Under Coach Paul Bossi, Currituck finished the season with an impressive 9-4 record.

And the Northeastern Eagles out of Elizabeth City ran by Southwest Onslow in a second-round 2A playoff tilt on Friday, winning 54-28, after building up a 41-7 lead. They will move on to face Southwest Edgecombe on Friday, Nov. 29. Coach Antonio Moore’s team is now 10-3 on the season.
