Northeastern moves on in state football tourney

Manteo High School’s terrific 2019 football season, one in which they reclaimed the Marlin Bowl from First Flight, came to an end in round three of the state high school playoffs as the Redskins were defeated 61-20 by a powerhouse Edenton Holmes squad on Friday, Nov. 29.

For the season, Sport Sawyer’s high-achieving team racked up an 11-3 record and won its first two tournament games in impressive fashion, defeating Riverside 55-26 and Granville Central 45-12. But an undefeated (12-0) Holmes team that defeated Manteo 56-0 during the regular season, proved too tough to handle in the post-season. Despite the loss, congratulations are in order for the Redskins.
