Ocean Acres Drive, Kill Devil Hills, 27948

The extraordinary annual Poulos Family Christmas Lights event begins on Thursday, Nov. 28.

Jim Poulos and his late wife, Ann, have been hosting the spectacular Christmas display at their home on Ocean Acres Drive for 40 years, drawing thousands of visitors from near and far as well as earning national recognition. Last Christmas was the first one without Ann, but as Jim Poulos explained, she made her Christmas wishes known before she passed away.

“She didn’t say ‘promise me,’” he recounted. “She said ‘you’re going to do it.’”

Featured on The Today Show and HGTV, this Outer Banks tradition is a must-see. This Christmas light spectacular takes 12 weeks to set up and racks up more than $3,500 in energy bills every month. The event goes on for the rest of the year, through December 31st.

Not only the neighbor hood but all the animals that call the Nature Conservancy home. The owls, deer, racons etc must deal with this major disruption, and there are various code violations like crowd control, sanitary concerns, required permits, noise levels that disturb the peace, safety concerns should there be an emergency, (fire, medical) and no access for emergency vehicles. The litter, bottles cups and paper left on the ground not being cleaned up. I could go on but you get the message.
