REALTOR® Lori Brooks Named 2019 REALTOR® of the Year

Last week the Outer Banks Association of REALTORS® held their REALTOR® Ball. The gala event is held annually to celebrate successes of the year, install the 2020 Directors and Officers and honor one REALTOR® member with the distinguished REALTOR® of the Year award.

The recipient of the REALTOR® of the Year award embodies the high principals of the real estate profession and exhibits commitment and volunteerism at the local, state, and national REALTOR® association levels. The recipient is also involved and gives back to the community. Past President John Head, Colony Realty, presented the 2019 REALTOR® of the Year award to Lori Brooks, owner of Coastal NC Realty Group, LLC.

Brooks, a 15-year REALTOR® veteran, is a past president of the Outer Banks Association and served as a Director for the North Carolina REALTORS® Association (NCR) for the last three years. In addition to service as a Chair, Vice Chair and member of multiple local association committees, she served on the state association’s Risk Management committee for the past two years. 

It was her loyalty to OBAR, however, that made Lori the perfect candidate for this award.  Says OBAR President Jean-Paul Peron of The Outer Banks Real Estate Company at eXp Realty, “In 2018, Lori set aside her brand-new real estate business to help during the transition to our new CEO Willo Kelly.  For almost four months, she served as the Interim Association Executive, attending staff meetings and ensuring that the association continued to run smoothly during that time.”  Peron continues, “This year she was not only a value to our Board of Directors but was instrumental in making our REALTOR®Fest and Tech Expo twice as better as last year.  I can think of no one that deserves this award more than her.”

Brooks continues her volunteer service with OBAR in 2020 as the Secretary on the Board of Directors.  “I am so honored to be named REALTOR® of the Year for this association for 2019.  Looking back at previous winners, I am humbled to be part of such an elite group of leaders.  As the work doesn’t stop here, I look forward to the future of OBAR working with the 2020 leadership team.”

Dare County Animal Shelter

Sealed bids for completion of the Dare County Animal Shelter will be received on February 11, 2020, in Dare County Administration Building, 954 Marshall C. Collins Drive, Manteo, NC, for 01-Fencing, 03- Concrete, 04-Masonry, 05-Metals/ Steel, 06-Casework, 07-Roofing, 07-Caulking, 08-Glass and Glazing, 08-Doors, Frames and Hardware, 08-Overhead Doors, 09-Drywall, 09-Flooring, 09-Painting, 10- Specialties, 12- Furnishings, 21-Fire Protection, 23-Mechanical & Plumbing, 26-Electrical, 31-Sitework and 32-Landscaping.

This project will be bid and awarded in accordance with North Carolina law. Sealed proposals from Contractors will be received until 1:00 p.m. All bidders must submit for prequalification by 2:00pm on 1/24/2020. Bids submitted by non-prequalified bidders will not be considered. All bids will be opened and read aloud starting at 2:00 p.m. of the bid day. Bids must be delivered in person and on the supplied Bid Form and include a bid deposit worth 5% of the total bid value. Electronic and faxed bids will NOT be accepted or reviewed. All times are local prevailing times.

The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company and Dare County reserve the right to reject any and all bids, waive informalities and irregularities in bidding, and to accept bids which are considered to be in the best interest of the County. Gen. Stat. 143-129.
