Rosie’s Recipes: Christmas Treats – Snickerdoodles

Snickerdoodles are a perennial favorite and Christmas wouldn’t be quite as Christmasy without these cinnamon treats.


  • 1 cup Crisco
  • 1 ½ cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 ¾ cup flour
  • 2 tsp cream of tartar
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 3 TB cinnamon
  • 3 TB sugar

Heat oven to 400°.

Cream together Crisco and sugar.

Add eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition.

Sift flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt, then stir into creamed mixture.

Chill for several hours.

Roll into small balls.

In a small bowl, combine cinnamon and sugar.  Roll balls in mixture.  Place about 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets.

Bake at 400° 8-10 minutes, until light brown.  I like to bang the tray on the oven rack about 6-7 minutes into baking.  It deflates the cookie and I get a crisper cookie, which I prefer.

Let cool on sheets for a few minutes then place on racks to cool completely.
