Schuster takes Silver Belle Title by two strokes

By on January 1, 2020

The 16-year-old phenom from Kill Devil Hills has won again. First Flight High School’s Katherine Schuster captured the Joanne Winter Arizona Silver Belle Championship — held from Dec. 28-30 — by two strokes, carding a seven under par 206 for the 54-hole tournament. That included shooting a sizzling 65 on the final day of the event held at the Longbow Golf Club in Mesa Arizona.

Schuster was one of three golfers to complete the tournament under par, as she defeated Sophie Guo of Irvine California by two strokes and Makenzie Niblett of Austin Texas by six shots. The victory comes barely a week after she won 2019 Women’s Dixie Amateur Championship in Tamarac FL.

In her story on the event written for Golfweek, Julie Williams declared that, “Katherine Schuster is quickly becoming queen of the winter circuit.”

Way to go Katherine! It is so great to see a young person exceeding and setting a positive example. I hope you continue to enjoy your sport AND enjoy it when those folk from Texas, California, and Arizona make comments like : ” she plays so good …and she’s from Kill Devil Where?… and “Gosh she’s good… where the heck is Kill Devil Hills…? ” Invite them out to see you play in your home area.
