Coast Guard searching for two boaters in Pamlico Sound

U.S. Coast Guard Station Hatteras Inlet is currently searching for two crew members of a commercial fishing vessel that sank in the Pamlico Sound last night, Jan. 7. Meanwhile, two other crew members of the 43-foot Papa’s Girl of Engelhard have been rescued, according to U.S. Coast Guard District 5 Public Affairs Officer Lieutenant Amanda Faulkner.

One of the victims was found on a life raft and the other one in the water. Both victims were treated for hypothermia, with CPR being administered on one of the victims who was transported to Sentara Albemarle Medical Center in Elizabeth City.

Lieutenant Faulkner said the U.S. Coast Guard received the distress call from the Papa’s Girl around 7 p.m. on Jan 7.

U.S. Coast Guard Station Elizabeth City performed its first flight search this morning for the two boaters as Station Hatteras Inlet, with the help of the North Carolina Wildlife Research Commission and a Good Samaritan vessel, continued the search for the missing crew members.
