First Flight Middle School hosted Currituck County for a semifinal conference championship game on February 10 at the FFMS gym in Kill Devil Hills. The game was tightly contested with numerous lead changes and tied scores.

It was clear from the tip-off that both teams came to play. First Flight held on to a slim 19-17 lead at the half but the Currituck Raiders starting to hit from the outside and were ahead 26-21 over the Seahawks at the end of the third quarter.

Then the exciting mayhem of the fourth quarter began. The loud, supportive fans for both teams cheered almost every point. Students and parents alike stamped their feet on the bleachers. The score was tied 29-29 with 4:02 left in the game.

Then the game was back-and-forth. Coaches taking multiple time outs like chess players trying to drawn up the winning plays. But in the end, the First Flight Seahawks would slip pass the Currituck Raiders by one point. At the buzzer the fans rushed onto the court to congratulate their team for winning an exciting, hard fought game against a most admirable opponent.

Way to go boys! But, um, didn’t the girls win their game too?! There doesnt seem to be any mention of them. I’m betting they are very proud of their win as well, as they should be, and would love to see their game covered. 😉
