Outer Banks Tennis Association raises $11K for Dare Hospice

President of the Outer Banks Tennis Association, Charlotte Midgett presented Sheila Davies, Dare County Department of Health & Human Services Director and Sonja Ballance, Dare Hospice Volunteer Services Coordinator with a check raised at the 17th Annual Outer Banks Charity Classic.

The 17th Annual Outer Banks Charity Classic tennis tournament was held September 13-15, 2019 at Westside Athletic Club in Powells Point, NC. The event was facilitated  by the Outer Banks Tennis Association (OBXTA) and raises money for Dare Hospice, a unit of the Dare County Department of Health & Human Services.  It  is the largest charitable project for the hospice organization and this year the OBXTA donated 100% of the proceeds of the tournament to Dare Hospice.

The event brought over 60 participants from all over the area. The Saturday evening social was poolside at Westside Athletic Club with a relaxed atmosphere and attendees were able to participate in the silent auction and raffle. Many thanks to the corporate sponsors, Towne Banks/Insurance, Twiford Funeral Home and Gallop Funeral Services. With everyone’s support, $11,000 was raised for Dare Hospice.

Dare Hospice provides palliative care services to patients at the end of life and offers support to their families and caregivers. Services from Dare Hospice are available throughout Dare County regardless of insurance coverage or ability to pay. Proceeds from the tournament are used to supplement the hospice program as well as recruit, train, and maintain a robust group of hospice volunteers.
