First Flight wins a title, performs well at NC track championships

On Feb.15, the First Flight High School Winter Track Team traveled to Winston-Salem for the State Championships and made a strong showing. Overall, there were 46 teams participating in the championships and the First Flight High girls team placed 7th while the boys squad finished 15th.

The top performers among the girls included Lydia Silles, who placed 2nd in the high jump at with a leap of 5’-2.”

The 4 x 800 relay team placed 3rd with a time of 10:25.75. The relay team members were Emma Byard, Madison Pugh, Maddy Wagner, and Lily Snow. Also, Tatum Dermatas placed 4th in the 1,000 meters at 3:17.33.

For the boys, the 4 x 800 relay team took the top prize with a time of 8:17.04. The relay team members were Henry Stecher, Warner Campbell, Max Bowlin and Zach Hughes. That time set a new indoor track record for this event.
