Coast Guard assists damaged vessel

While conducting a bar standby this morning, the crew on our 47-foot Motor Lifeboat was hailed on by a nearby sport fisher that had suffered a crack in its hull and was taking on water. Within seconds, our crew had the vessel in sight and was able to get on scene to determine the extent of the damage.

The vessel had several inches of water onboard, however their bilge pumps were activated and the water level was maintained enough to proceed under their own power. The bar was very active with 6-to 8-foot breaks inside the channel, so our crew safely escorted the vessel inbound by breaking up the following seas for them.

The vessel lost their port gear during the transit, but made it through safely. Our crew followed the vessel back to their homeport to assist if the situation worsened. The water level thankfully subsided enough for both vessels to make it back with no issues. Bravo Zulu team for being there when it mattered the most.
