Stolen Manteo Furniture truck recovered in Tarboro

By on February 24, 2020

A stolen Manteo Furniture & Appliance delivery truck was located this morning, Feb. 24, in the parking lot of a Tarboro, N.C. motel. The truck was stolen from outside the downtown Manteo store shortly after 12 a.m. on Feb. 22, where it was parked with the vehicle’s key inside.

Manteo Police Chief Vance Haskett told the Voice that the suspect is a Dare County resident and that a warrant would be issued shortly for the individual’s arrest. He speculated that the suspect stole the vehicle to sell its contents, which included a new refrigerator worth more than $2,000 and an air conditioner.

Haskett declined to release the name of the suspect until the warrant was issued. The suspect used an inmate ID card when reserving a room at the Tarboro motel. Haskett did not say which detention facility the card was from.

Manteo Furniture owner Ken Daniels said a spare key was currently being made and that the truck would be picked up in the next day or so.
