Update: The following statement was released on the afternoon of March 21 by Kitty Hawk Kites

“There was a fire today at the Kitty Hawk Kites and Life is Good store in Avon, NC. Though the store was open at the time of the fire, thankfully no one was injured. We want to express our sincerest appreciation to the fire departments of Avon, Frisco, Buxton and Hatteras for responding quickly to help extinguish the fire. We are working with the Dare County Fire Marshal to determine the cause of the fire. The store will be closed for an indeterminate period of time, and we will provide more information as it becomes available. All other Kitty Hawk Kites, Kitty Hawk Surf Co., and Life is Good stores in the Outer Banks are open, except for on Ocracoke. We thank you all for your support.
