UPDATE: NC12 is open, drive with extreme caution

4/5 at 12:51pm: While NC12 is OPEN at this hour, we will still have crews out this afternoon working to shore up the dune line in anticipation of the next high tide. So please, drive with extreme caution if you must venture out! Your friendly neighborhood road crew thanks you for your patience

Good news! NC12 between the Basnight Bridge and Rodanthe will REOPEN this morning at 10 a.m. There is still sand and standing water in the roadway, so please drive carefully! NCDOT crews will continue working in the area to fortify the dune before the next high tide at 6:30 p.m.

Highway 12 is once again CLOSED between the Basnight Bridge and Rodanthe due to ocean overwash. We’ll post updates when we have more information. Here’s a picture of the scene at Mirlo Beach Sunday morning. Our crews are on the scene working to reopen the road as soon as possible. We’ll post more information when we have it.

4/4 at 7:39pm: NC12 has now REOPENED to traffic between the Basnight Bridge and Rodanthe. Please drive carefully. Our crews will be back after first light tomorrow to patch up anything the morning high tide throws at us. Have a good night.

4/4/at 7pm: Here’s a look at the ocean overwash on Hwy 12 at Mirlo Beach. Again, Highway 12 is CLOSED between the Basnight Bridge and Rodanthe. We have crews on the scene attempting to close the breach. We’ll post more details when we have them.

4/4 at 6:30pm: Due to ocean overwash caused by the high tide, NC12 is again CLOSED between the Basnight Bridge and Rodanthe. We currently have crews on the scene, and we’ll post more when we have new information.
