Today’s coronavirus numbers – April 5

  • Reported NC cases – 2,585 (up 183 from yesterday)
  • Reported NC deaths – 31
  • Currently hospitalized – 261
  • NC county with most cases – Mecklenburg (664)
  • Reported cases in Dare, Currituck and Hyde Counties – 8
  • Completed tests – 40,045
  • % of cases by age group – 0-17 (1%), 18-24 (9%), 25-49 (41%), 50-64 (28%), 65+ (21%) 
  • % of cases by gender – female (51%), male (49%)
  • Number of current outbreaks in NC congregate living facilities (nursing homes, residential care facilities, correctional facilities) – 14
  • Number of empty hospital beds in NC – 6,418 out of 14,776 total
  • Number of empty ICU hospital beds in NC – 732 out of 3,223 total
  • Number or ventilators currently in use in NC hospitals – 618 out of 2,365

NoteEvery morning, the NC Department of Health and Human Services posts updates on the number of reported cases of coronavirus. That number reflects positive results from all tests, including the NC State Laboratory of Public Health and all hospital and commercial labs. There may be other reports, from the media and elsewhere, that will include different numbers during a given day, but this is an effective way of tracking numbers from the same source on a day-to-day basis.
