National Wildlife Refuges Visitor Center
Several clusters of Pink Lady’s Slipper (Cypripedium acaule), also known as Moccasin Flower, were recently seen along the nature trail of National Wildlife Refuges Visitor Center on Roanoke Island. The Lady’s Slipper is part of the orchid family. It requires a soil fungus to help open the seeds and provide nutrients to the plant as it grows. And, it depends upon pollinators, mainly bees, to perpetuate the species.
