Manteo High School athletes graduating in 2020 are getting a tribute to remember. The images of 27 senior athletes now adorn 31” x 72” double-sided banners hanging from highly visible spots along Rte. 264/64. Several of the banners also bear the images of senior members of the high school’s theater company.

Jed Dixon, co-president of the Manteo High School Athletic Booster Club, told the Voice that the idea for the banners was first raised by Manteo High teacher Liz Brown. The process of getting the project approved and implemented involved the Booster Club, Manteo High School Principal John Luciano, Manteo High School Athletic Director Alfie Wheeler and eventually, town officials including Manteo Town Manager James Ayers and the town commissioners as well as the department of public works.  The images were provided by Michael Brisson of Left Field Photography. Marquenette Fuller, a Manteo High alum and athlete, made the banners.
