The Kill Devil Hills Fire Department has released the results of its investigation into the May 17 house fire that tragically took the lives of Ravann Rachelle Horton and her son, Sebastian (Sebi) Lopez. The report stated that the origin of the fire at the Pine Grove Trail triplex was determined to have started on the wooden deck on the ground floor of Apartment B. The cause of the fire was an unattended charcoal cooking grill that was close to the combustibles on the deck.  The fire is deemed to be accidental.

The Kill Devil Hills Fire Department extends its condolences to the family, friends and our community for the loss of Ravann and Sebi.

One sign of the community’s sense of loss is that the gofundme campaign started in their memories, and initially aiming to raise $10,000, has now generated $36,000 from about 500 donors. https://www.gofundme.com/support-the-light-and-love-of-ravann-and-sebi.

So unattended charcoal grill…and no one is responsible. Of course, an accident, but someone most certainly was irresponsible. Car accident…”accident” being the word used. Still, there is a person responsible. Sad but true.

So, because somebody else did not practice safety with a grill, these two people died..?? And the person who did not sufficiently extinguish the charcoals gets away scot-free..??

It’s not clear in the article. Did the grill belong to the victims? If not, the grill owner must feel absolutely awful. Sometimes accidents do happen.
