Today’s coronavirus numbers – May 29

What’s new today: About 16,000 new tests and almost 1,100 new cases.

  • Reported NC cases – 26,488 (up 1,076 from yesterday)
  • Reported NC deaths – 859
  • Currently hospitalized – 680
  • Patients Presumed to be recovered – 14,954
  • NC county with most cases– Mecklenburg (3,837)
  • Reported cases in Dare, Currituck and Hyde Counties – 36 (Dare 22, Currituck 13, Hyde 1)
  • Completed tests – 391,231
  • % of cases by age group – 0-17 (6%), 18-24 (9%), 25-49 (44%), 50-64 (23%), 65+ (18%)
  • % of cases by gender – female (51%), male (49%)
  • Number of cases in NC congregate living facilities (nursing homes, residential care facilities, correctional facilities) – 5,250
  • Number of empty hospital beds in NC – 4,346 out of 18,990 total
  • Number of empty ICU hospital beds in NC – 522 out of 3,223 total
  • Number or ventilators currently in use in NC hospitals – 805 out of 3,391 total

Note: Every morning, the NC Department of Health and Human Services posts updates the number of reported cases of coronavirus. That number reflects positive results from all tests, including the NC State Laboratory of Public Health and all hospital and commercial labs. There may be other reports, from the media and elsewhere, that will include different numbers during a given day, but this is an effective way of tracking numbers from the same source on a day-to-day basis.
