The Nags Head Woods Preserve posted this cautionary note on its Facebook page on June 3.

“This time of year, a black bear occasionally makes its way from the mainland to the Outer Banks and one has been spotted in Kill Devil Hills. The NC Wildlife Resources Commission suggests that community members do the following: secure trash cans, do not leave pet or any other food outside and please never approach wild animals. Let’s all do our part to encourage our mainland visitor to return home where it can be safe!”
