Two restaurants announce COVID-19 staff testing

By on June 30, 2020

Two more restaurants on Hatteras Island have announced on Facebook that they are getting their staff tested (one is temporarily closing) due to concerns about COVID-19. On June 25, the Quarterdeck Restaurant & Bar and the Frisco Sandwich Company announced they were closing temporarily after an employee at each tested positive for COVID-19.

Here are the June 29 posts from Lisa’s Pizzeria in Rodanthe and Kat’s Deli in Hatteras
Lisa’s Pizzeria

The management at Lisa’s would like to inform our customers that it has been confirmed that a number of our employees attended a party that was also attended by a person who has tested positive for Covid-19. These staff members have been removed from our schedule and will remain off of our premises until their tests are returned. Two tests have come back negative and we are awaiting the returns of 7 more. If any of these tests come back positive we plan to close immediately and work with local health officials on a plan to reopen.

We ask for patience and understanding as this is a very difficult situation to manage. We have been in contact with local health officials and are and will continue to follow all local and state guidelines. We have prided ourselves on creating a system that keeps our customers and employees healthy and maintain more than the mandated measures of safety however this was outside of our control. At present our main focus is to make the best decision for our employees, our community and our customers in equal measure.

These are difficult times to navigate let alone operate a small business in a tourist destination. We appreciate your support but ask that any negativity be reserved. We believe the only way through this is with grace and understanding….stay safe and healthy and take care of your loved ones.

Kat’s Deli on Hatteras

Hey y’all. Due to the rise in community spread of Covid 19, we have decided it is in the best interest of our staff and the community to close until our staff can get tested. While no one at the deli is symptomatic or has tested positive, a member of our staff has come in contact with someone who has tested positive. To be on the safe side, our staff is getting tested tomorrow. We are trying to be transparent with our community and stay ahead of this. We are hoping that we will be back open by this weekend! We love our community and want to make sure that we are doing everything in our power to stop the spread! Stay safe and healthy.

Can we do something for these businesses who put compassion above money?
A compassion fund? Go fund me?
We all need money to survive but money without survival is pointless.
Help these wounderful businesses and make it an easier decision for those business owners who are too scared to do the right thing.
    Protect our workers!!

    PEACE!!!

I am so sorry these small businesses have to deal with the consequences of one or more reckless employees. It is hard enough to keep afloat as a restaurant in these times without having someone you trust and employ hurt you and possibly cause harm to so many others financially and medically.

Sorry for the businesses. So, I guess it’s not a HOAX or some conspiracy theory. Unfortunately, I think this is just the beginning of this. People need to wear masks.

    @Mermaid
You jump right to blaming employees??? Nice. And you know that these employees acted irresponsibly, how, exactly? And, then double down and accuse them of intentionally harming others…. Shame on you!

I think it is wonderful that these businesses are showing such dedication to protecting their customers and I agree some type of way to help them would be great
