Kill Devil Hills Public Services Staff, as well as crews from Landmark Structures and Hatchell Concrete, have been busier than usual over the last several weeks preparing the Town’s new water tower for operation. The Town of Kill Devil Hills is pleased to announce that water is now flowing from the new tower! Before filling the 400,000-gallon bowl, it was disinfected to ensure high-quality water. After sanitization, crews began to fill the tank. The new tank was connected to the pump station and water was sent up the 160′ tower. (It took less than a day to fill the 400,000-gallon bowl!) Once filled, a water sample was collected and tested for quality assurance. The passing sample was also approved for quality by the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
It is anticipated that the deconstruction of the 56-year-old water tower will occur sometime in the fall. Before demolition will begin, cellular antennas from the old tank must be removed and placed on top of the 180’ monopole cell tower, which is also nearing completion.
For any questions about the Town’s water towers, please call our Public Services Department at (252) 480-4080. For questions relating to your drinking water, please call our Water Plant at (252) 480-4090.
