On July 27, at 4:25 a.m., the Kill Devil Hills Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire in the 400 block of Cameron Street. Fire crews from Colington and Kitty Hawk Fire Departments, along with the Kill Devil Hills Police Department and Dare County EMS were dispatched to assist in the operation. The fire was extinguished quickly with damage to the deck. The house was occupied, but no one was injured.

A neighbor across the street called 911 to report the fire. Due to their quick reaction seeing the fire, it was contained to the deck and the house was not damaged and no one was hurt. The Kill Devil Hills Fire Marshal investigated the fire to determine the cause of the fire was due to improper disposal of charcoal debris that was put into a combustible container and left on the deck.

People love to charcoal grill on decks, then leave it to catch fire.

I love to use my charcoal grill on my deck and dump the hot coals in the trash.
