Update 8/3 at 7:35 am: According to the Dominion Energy outage map, power outages caused by the substation explosion and fire on Aug. 2, have now been resolved and restored.
Update 8/2 As of 11 p.m. Dominion Energy is now showing about 3,700 Dare County customers without power.
Update 8/2/9:45 pm: Tideland reports that its power was restored at about 9:30 p.m. Dominion currently shows it has about 5,700 customers out in Dare County.
8/2/9:05 pm: Dominion Energy is reporting that just over 8,000 customers are now without power in Nags Head and part of Roanoke Island as a result of what is being called a substation explosion.
On its Facebook page, the Town of Nags Head is reporting that, “We are aware of a power outage that seems to be impacting areas of Nags Head near Mile Post 11.5 and south, across US 64, and down to Oregon Inlet. According to the Dominion Energy web site, areas of Roanoke Island are also impacted. We are keeping in close contact with Dominion and will post any updates as we learn of them.”
The Tideland Electric Membership Corporation is also reporting that, “As a result of this situation, Tideland has no transmission to our Manns Harbor substation. No word yet on estimated time of restoration.”
