A tribute to our senior high school baseball athletes

Among the many things disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic were the 2019-2020 senior year seasons of many of our local high school athletes. Now, as we wait for the start of the 2020-2021 scholastic athletic season — which has currently been delayed — the Voice wanted to pay tribute those senior athletes who graced our playing fields.

Here is a list of the recently graduated senior baseball players at our local schools along with their plans for the future.

Baseball

 

Currituck County High School

  • Cannon Pickell Four-Year Letterman, plans to attend UNC-Chapel Hill and play baseball.
  • Andrew Dowdy-Green Two-Year Letterman, plans to enter the US Army.
  • Jackson Gay Two-Year Letterman, plans to attend UVA Wise and play baseball.
  • Jayden Calloway Two Year Letterman, plans to attend Barton College and play football.
  • Connor Hamilton Two-Year Letterman, plans to attend Bryant and Stratton College and play  baseball.
  • Josh Beazley Two-Year Letterman, plans to attend Virginia Wesleyan University and play baseball.

 

 Cape Hatteras Secondary School

  • John Contestable Jr. Four years baseball, also cross country and basketball, plans to attend UNCW.
  • Jasper Morris Three years baseball, also soccer and basketball, plans to work or attend college.
  • Alex Ortega Two years baseball, also soccer and basketball, plans to enter the U.S. Coast Guard.
  • Donald Shepard One year of baseball, also football, plans to work or attend college.
  • Juni Torres Four years baseball, also soccer and basketball, plans to work or attend college.
  • Simon Wilson Four years baseball, plans to work with Dare County EMS.

 

Manteo High School

  • Corbin Tillett Four years baseball, also soccer.  Plans to attend COA and then transfer to a four- year university.
  • Wolfie Schultz Four years baseball, football and basketball. Plans to attend Allegheny College in Pennsylvania and play football.
  • Hayden Scott Four years baseball and football. Plans to attend Barton College and play football and major in exercise science.
  • Gavin Clark Four-year member of the baseball program.
  • James Gilreath Four-year member of the baseball, football and basketball program. Plans to attend Davidson College and play football.
  • Jake Brown Four-year member of baseball and football programs. Plans to attend North Carolina State University and major in Fisheries and Wildlife.

 

First Flight High School

  • Aidan May Four years baseball, three times all-conference. Plans on attending four-year college.
  • Brentan Rowe Four years baseball, three times all-conference. Plans to attend High Point University.
  • Shane Nason Three years baseball, two times all-conference. Plans to attend four-year university.
  • Jack Piddington Three years baseball, Plans to be a charter boat captain.
