FINAL TRIBUTE TO OUR 2019-2020 HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR ATHLETES

Among the many things disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic were the 2019-2020 senior year seasons of many of our local high school athletes. Now, as we wait for the start of the 2020-2021 high school athletic season, the Voice wanted to pay tribute those senior athletes who graced our playing fields.

Today, we honor the athletes who were at Manteo High School.

 

SOFTBALL TEAM

Maiya Ribeiro: Four-year member of the volleyball, basketball, and softball teams. Also, a member of the SADD club, National Honor Society, AVID program.  A member of the homecoming court and selected as spirit queen.  Plans to attend East Carolina University and major in Kinesiology.

Brianna Landazuri: Member of the basketball, soccer, and softball teams.  Active volunteer at the Aquarium. Has been a member of stage left.  Plans to attend Lenoir Rhyne University and study pre-med, and minor in Spanish and Psychology.  Wants to eventually go into pediatric medicine.

Jordan Allen: Four-year member of softball team. She was involved with Peer Power and Dare County Youth Council.  She is planning on going to Pitt. CC in fall and majoring in physical therapy.

 

GOLF

Daven Reynolds: member of the golf team and Leo Club.  Plans to attend COA.

Chris Neiman:  Four-year member of the Golf and Basketball programs.  Plans on attending a vocational school to be a mechanic.

 

BOYS TENNIS

Max Janesik: Two-year member of the tennis team. Four-year member of the swim team. Was in leadership role with teen court and the Special Olympics swim program.  Member of Mathletes. Plans to attend University of Southern California and major in aerospace engineering.

 

GIRLS SOCCER

Willa Brown: Has been a member of the cross country, tennis, and girls soccer programs. Four- year member of the SGA and is the secretary of the National Honor Society. Also, a three-year member of the yearbook committee.  Plans to attend North Carolina State University and major in biological sciences.

Courtney Daniels: Has been a member of the tennis, basketball, and girls soccer programs. A member of the SGA, foods club, mathletes, and teen court.  Also, a member of the National Honor Society.  Plans to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and major in Business.

Cora Sutherland: Has been a member of the soccer and swim teams. Also, has been a member of the Chorus and National Honor Society.  Plans to attend COA and major in Elementary Education.

Ayanna Selby: Has been a four-year member of the tennis, basketball, and soccer teams.  She is a teen court jury member and anchor for Manteo Today. Also, a member of the SADD Club.  Plans attend the University of North Carolina at Pembroke and major in Business.

Libby Robertson: Has been a member of the cross Country, swim, and soccer programs. Has also been a member of SGA and the National Honor Society.  Plans to attend North Carolina State University and major in psychology.

 

BASEBALL TEAM

Corbin Tillett: Member of baseball program for four years and member of soccer program for one year.  Was an intern at the Coastal Studies Institute. Member of the National Honor Society.  Plans to attend COA and then transfer to a four-Year university.

Wolfie Schultz: Was a member of the football, basketball, and baseball programs for four years. Member of the National Honor Society, Monday Night Alive, and Mathletes.  Plans to attend Allegheny College in Pennsylvania and play football.

Hayden Scott: Was a member of the football and baseball programs for four years. Plans to attend Barton College and play football and major in exercise science.

Gavin Clark: Four-year member of the baseball program.

James Gilreath: Was a four-year member of the football, basketball, and baseball programs. Member of the National Honor Society. Plans to attend Davidson College and play football.

Jake Brown: Was a four-year member of the football and baseball programs. Member of the National Honor Society.  Interned at the National Wildlife Refuge and plans to attend North Carolina State University and major in Fisheries and Wildlife.

 

BOYS TRACK AND FIELD TEAM

Keagan Charron: Will be attending ECU and majoring in business. While in high school, he participated in football, was a thrower on the track and field team, and was a part of mathletes.

Christopher Roberts: Will be attending Princeton and majoring in computer engineering. While in high school, he participated in track and field, cross country, Mathletes, computer science club, NCSSM, and Governor’s School for Mathematics. He is also the National Honor Society President.

Dakota Meekins: Will be attending UNC Charlotte to study Computer Science or Crime Analytics. While in high school, he was a member of the SGA, Yearbook, varsity football, and track and field.

Kyle Soles: Will be attending Elizabeth City State University where he will play football and major in business. While in high school he was a member of the football, basketball, and track and field teams. Even though we only had one track and field meet this season, Kyle tied the record for the discus with a throw of 135’2”.

Bryson Sawyer: Will be attending Barton College where he will play football and major in Math Education. While in high school, he was a member of the National Honor Society, football, basketball, and track and field teams.

Thomas Orgsbon: Will be attending ECU and majoring in criminal justice. While in high school, he participated in football, basketball, and was a thrower on the track and field team.

Armani Pledger: Will be attending Louisburg College where he will play football and is unsure what he would like to major in at this time. While in high school, he was a member of the football, basketball, and track and field teams.

Gene Overton: Was a member of the track and wrestling teams.

 

GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD TEAM

Kaitlyn Burchette: Will be attending Old Dominion University. She will be majoring in psychology and minoring in criminal justice. While in high school, she was involved in the SADD club, AVID, cheerleader for football and basketball, and the track and field team.

Ashanti Pledger: Will be attending Shaw University and majoring in Special Education/Elementary Education. While in high school, she was involved with the SADD club, FCA, shooting club, girl scouts, volleyball, basketball manager, cheerleading and track and field.
