LaRee Lynn, age 90 of Spot, NC passed away Thursday, October 8, 2020 at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center. LaRee was born in New York to Ray and Alice Lynn in 1930. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy and retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard.
He was a Scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts as a young adult and spent most of his adult life coaching and mentoring countless Currituck County youth in baseball, golf, and life in general. Mr. Lynn was a pioneer in helping to start the first organized baseball program in the county. He volunteered his time selflessly and was an inspiration to all who knew him. He loved to read and loved to watch UNC Tarheels basketball games. “Big Lynn” as he was affectionately known, was loved and respected by his family and so many people throughout Currituck.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, LaRee Lynn Jr. He leaves to cherish his memories his wife of sixty-eight years, Shirley Owens Lynn; two sons, Terry Lynn (Sherry) and Alan Lynn (Connie); one daughter, Cindy Staples (Wilson); grandchildren, Wilson Staples (Julye), Amanda Staples, Steven Lynn and Joshua Tipton; and one great granddaughter, Sarah Sanchez.
The family extends a special thanks to Outer Banks Home Care, Albemarle Home Health, Barco Nursing Home, Lower Currituck EMS, Chesapeake Regional Hospital and Dr. James Owens.
Graveside service will be held Monday, October 12, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. at Powells Point Christian Church with the Rev. Walter Gallop officiating. In lieu of flowers please consider donations to the Currituck County Library as he was a lifelong avid reader.
