Nearly 2,600 new COVID cases reported in NC

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services reported another high number of new COVID-19 cases on Oct. 24 — 2,584. The number of hospitalizations reported today stayed virtually the same at 1,182 and percentage of positive tests out of all tests administered dropped under 7%, to 6.7%.

 

Dare County

The Dare County Department of Health and Human Services reported 3 new cases of COVID-19 on Oct. 24, bringing the total number of cases reported here to 670. Of the three new cases, two individuals are Dare County residents, and one is a non-resident. The two residents are isolating in Dare County and the non-resident has been transferred to his home county.

  • Reported cases in Dare, Currituck and Hyde Counties – 1,067 (Dare 670, Currituck 222, Hyde 175)
  • Completed tests – 3,799,405
  • Daily percent positive tests – 6.7%

Note: Every morning, the NC Department of Health and Human Services posts updates o number of reported cases of coronavirus. That number reflects positive results from all tests, including the NC State Laboratory of Public Health and all hospital and commercial labs. There may be other reports, from the media and elsewhere, that will include different numbers during a given day, but this is an effective way of tracking numbers from the same source on a day-to-day basis.

    Relatively good news is that the death rate in our state appears to be flat since mid-summer. We and our medical teams have learned much about this virus and people for the most part are following the guidelines.

    As long as the bars and dine in restaurants remain open with people crowding together with no masks, this will only get worse. You cannot ignore this problem away.
